Lori Meybodi, LMT
Licensed Massage Therapist, Certified Cosmetic Surgery Therapist
MLD is a very gentle manual treatment that improves the function of the lymphatic system throughout the body. In the 1930s the techniques of MLD were first introduced by Dr. Emil Vodder, PhD, MT from Denmark. It is becoming widely recognized in the United States as a treatment to treat patients who develop Lymphedema. It can be used to alleviate symptoms including post surgical swelling and post traumatic edema (e.g., sports injuries). MLD can also help alleviate symptoms of auto-immune disorders, and fibromyalgia. MLD is further used to promote general relaxation and for cleansing (detoxification) of the skin and superficial fascia. In Lymphedema therapy MLD is used to reroute the lymph flow around blocked areas into healthy lymph vessels, which drain into the venous circulation.
MLD can support Lymphedema patients in maintaining their health, and expedite healing in patients who have undergone surgery. MLD is beneficial for those who may be at risk for developing lymphedema due to trauma, surgery, radiation and lymph node removal. MLD treatments help patients feel better faster, by reducing swelling and pain. I also utilize MLD for cosmetic surgery patients who want to expedite their healing time, and my clients are often amazed by the results.
If you have been diagnosed with Lymphedema, I suggests you to first see a Physical Therapist or Occupational Therapist certified in MLD/CDT and have finished your Complete Decongestive Therapy before seeking treatment from me. I support clients for Lymphedema prevention, as well as maintaining results for those who have Lymphedema and have undergone decongestive therapy.
I received my certification from the Norton School of Lymphatic Therapy (48 course hours) in 2007, and repeated my certification at the Swedish Institute College of Continuing Education (174 course hours) in 2016. I am a Certified Cosmetic Surgery Therapist (Psomas Method) from the Norton School of Lymphatic Therapy.
WARNING: Only a licensed medical professional can administer Manual Lymphatic Drainage (ie. Licensed Massage Therapist, Occupational or Physical Therapist). It is illegal for someone to open your incisions and push out fluid. That is NOT Manual Lymphatic Drainage.
