Reiki (pronounced ray-key) is a holistic healing practice that engages the body's self-healing. Reiki is a simple, natural and safe method of healing and self-improvement that everyone can use. Reiki treats the whole person including body, emotions, mind and spirit, creating many beneficial effects that include deep relaxation and feelings of peace, security and well-being. It works in conjunction with all other medical or therapeutic techniques to relieve side effects and promote recovery.
A Reiki session is performed with the recipient sitting or lying down (fully clothed). The Reiki practitioner lightly places their hands on the body (areas of the head and torso).
Reiki is used in many medical settings because it is safe, and can be used with anyone, regardless of age or health condition. It has been shown to help improve sleep, relieve nausea, anxiety, depression, and pain. In my clinical experience, clients most often reported feeling more relaxed,
diminished pain and anxiety levels, and greater mental clarity. Receiving Reiki before surgery may help reduce anxiety, enabling the patient to be more at ease, creating a more calm, peaceful state of mind. Reiki supports our well-being and strengthens our natural ability to heal.
My Reiki training includes completion of a 160 hour Advanced Reiki Practitioner training program with Margaret Ann Case, and Continuing Education with Pamela Miles, author of "REIKI: A Comprehensive Guide". I also completed Pamela's 15 month Reiki Internship at Beth Israel Medical Center, providing Reiki treatments for patients.
